Here are some questions you might have about our services at Sojourns.
Where is Sojourns?
Sojourns: A Fair Trade Store, is located on Third Avenue North downtown between 20th Street and Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard. (See map below.) We are proud to have partnered with Sojourns since 2011. Click here to visit their Facebook page. What is Sojourns? Sojourns is a fair-trade store that offers a wide variety of artisan-made products produced by people in developing nations who are paid a fair, living wage for their crafts. The store stocks clothing, jewelry, home decor, sculpture, musical instruments, bath and body products, food items and a zillion other magical gifts. Do you accept walk-ins? Unfortunately, no – you need to make an appointment at least 48 hours in advance. However, we do accept walk-ins during our pop-up salons. Check our Events page for the date of the next salon. What are your hours? Our hours sometimes are different than the store's operating hours and vary seasonally, but we generally take appointments at the store Thursday through Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. You can use the booking system to check available days and times. Where do I park? Metered parking is available on the street (no payment required after 5 pm and on weekends). You also can park a block away at BPA Deck 6 on Second Avenue North between 20th Street and Arrington Boulevard (next to the City Federal building). Parking can be tight during weekday business hours, so we encourage you to arrive 15 minutes ahead of your appointment time to allow for parking. Can I bring a friend? Yes – just keep in mind our salon space is small and we may not have room for guests. However, anyone who comes along is more than welcome to browse the shop during your appointment. Can I share my appointment time with more than one person? We prefer that each person book under his/her own name. However, if you are sharing your time with just a friend or two, then you can book under one person's name. |
Can I schedule a party at Sojourns?
Our space is too small to accommodate a party during normal business hours. However, if you are interested in having the store open for you during evening hours for a private event and want to include henna, click here and fill out the online form, and we'll be in touch. What colors of henna do you have? Technically speaking, henna comes in only one color – the color made by natural henna from the henna plant. Henna stains the skin reddish brown. We also have jagua, which is made from a South American fruit, which stains navy blue. Both henna and jagua designs last 1-2 weeks. For all other colors, the only safe option we have is Henna Glam — a temporary, durable paint that lasts 1-5 days and can be removed with baby oil or alcohol. We never use "black" henna. What forms of payment do you accept? We take cash, all major credit/debit cards and PayPal. We do not accept personal checks. We operate on a separate cash register system than the store. But your booking system asked me to input a debit/credit card number when I scheduled my appointment. Yes — but you're not being charged yet. This is to protect us against no-shows or people who chronically cancel. When you check out after your appointment, you can use the payment method of your choice. May I tip you? That is entirely up to you! We welcome tips, but they are not mandatory. I really don't want to pay $35 for henna – I just want something small. We understand! The reason we charge a half-hour minimum is because taking customers at Sojourns involves some prep time on our part – it just doesn't make economic sense to schedule a design that we'd charge only $10 for. Okay. But $35 is still outside my budget. You can always split your appointment time with a friend or two and get a simpler design. We also have pop-up salon days at Sojourns during the warmer months. On those days, we're glad to take walk-ins, and our prices generally start at $10-15. Follow our Facebook event page here to keep up with our schedule. We also do many festivals and other public events throughout the year where you can get simpler, less expensive henna. Those also will be listed on our Facebook page. |
