About Amy

A lifelong resident of Birmingham, Amy Miller discovered mehndi in 1999 when a friend bought her Loretta Roome's epic work, Mehndi: The Timeless Art of Henna Painting. Entranced by Indian and Middle Eastern culture in general and as an aspiring Middle Eastern dancer as well, she dove headlong into a self-study of the art of mehndi.

After many years of doing mehndi on a freelance basis as a sideline to her communications career, in 2011 she left the corporate world and embarked on pursuing her artistic endeavors full-time.

Amy's cultural awareness, knowledge and sensitivity is evidenced by the fact that her clients hail from all walks of life, all continents and all major religions. Many of her clients are from countries and cultures with a henna tradition, including Tunisia, Nepal, Bangladesh and, of course, India. To date, she has provided bridal mehndi services to Hindu, Muslim and Christian brides from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Amy appears frequently at popular local events such as the Birmingham International Street Fair, Be Here Now (sponsored by Erynias Tribe) and the UAB World's Fair. She is a regular fixture at the Birmingham Art Crawl working out of Sojourns: A Fair Trade Store on Third Avenue North on the first Thursday of each month during the spring and summer.

She is also very popular with the college crowd and has worked at numerous events at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham-Southern College and Troy University.

You can follow her and Blue Lotus Mehndi's adventures on FacebookTwitter, Instagram and YouTube, and be sure to check out her Mehndi Missives Blog.
